Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a mixed acuity unit, requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

Mixed acuity 18-bed unit including intermediate care and non-vented ICU level patients

Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural cases (post TNK, neuro IR procedures, embolizations, angiography, hemorrhages, aneurysms, burr holes, VP shunts, craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, continuous EEG) as well as respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities

RN to patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity, CNA ratio of 1:12

Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Spacelabs and Resparray monitors, bedside monitors, and bladder scanners

12-hour day shifts on a 36/48 schedule, shift times 7a-7p or 7p-7a on a 6-week schedule cycle

Weekend rotation every other weekend, occasional back-to-back weekends possible

No on-call requirements

Floating required to like units/patient locations, including ICU-MS task assignments (limit of 3) or ICU-ER/ICU holds

Requirements

Active RN license (AL or compact) required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with 2 years of ICU experience

Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP, cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required

Experience with titratable drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine required

Ability to read and measure telemetry strips required

Cerner EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

Provide direct patient care within a mixed acuity ICU/PCU setting supported by CNAs, HUC/receptionist staff, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, and a dedicated resource nurse/educator

24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available

Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation

Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival

Up to 7 days of time off may be pre-approved excluding blackout dates

Scrubs of any color permitted

Free on-campus and parking deck parking available

Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted

Former staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
