Physician - Infectious Disease

Summary The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Part‑Time Physician – Infectious Disease to join the Specialty Care Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City, Iowa. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as listed for the year the residency or fellowship was completed. Or one year of post‑medical school training (internship or transitional year), followed by two years of independent practice under a full license. Or non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, performing duties related to the position. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs that otherwise meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full license, are appointed on an intermittent basis, are not considered independent practitioners, and will have a scope of practice that allows certain restricted duties under supervision. Surgeon residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. In exceptional circumstances, the Facility Director may submit a memo to the VISN Director for approval of reasonable exceptions to the residency requirement based on the applicant’s comprehensive record. Performing outstanding teaching, clinical, and interpersonal skills as required of this role. Supervising Infectious Disease fellows on the inpatient consultation service and in the Infectious Diseases clinic; providing primary outpatient care to patients with HIV/AIDS. Participating in hospital‑wide committees, including the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees. Administrative responsibilities, delivering lectures to Internal Medicine residents and Infectious Disease fellows, and providing telehealth consults to network areas lacking Infectious Disease physicians. Developing and engaging in clinical research is highly encouraged. Benefits and Compensation Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid absence for CME).
