Job Description East Side House, founded in 1891, is a 501(c)(3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. The primary responsibility of the Group Leader is to design and lead diverse enrichment activities. The role requires creative professionals with experience working with youth in civic engagement, music, visual arts, martial arts, media technology, dance, sports, recreation, health awareness, community leadership, and more. Responsibilities Identify, create and facilitate age‑appropriate, thematic‑based lesson plans and activities. Work as part of a collaborative team, providing support to specialists implementing activities. Prepare the learning environment by creating a welcoming space that exhibits participants’ work. Build positive relations with youth and adults to serve as a role model. Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of participants. Assist with enrollment, record‑keeping, attendance, and other required documents. Inspect daily all facilities, equipment, and supplies. Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and organizing. Organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment, and tools. Maintain accurate program documentation (incident/accident/behavior reports, attendance sheets). Communicate program mission and Compass program goals to participants and community members. Participate in professional development, supervision, team meetings, pre‑service training, and paid training. Organize and participate in external special events to promote the agency’s mission. Qualifications Education & Experience Minimum high school diploma or GED required; some college preferred. Minimum of two years of work‑related skills, knowledge, or experience. Experience working with elementary schools in a diverse urban community. Strong communication, organization, judgment, teamwork, professionalism, and ability to work in various environments. Foreign language, visual arts, music, or performing arts skills encouraged. Ability to communicate effectively and remain professional at all times. Ability to motivate students and set an example in responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and professionalism. Adaptability to changing circumstances; bilingual is a plus. Monday–Sunday, 1:00PM–11:00PM. Hours subject to change; professional development and staff meetings required. Required Online Trainings Mandated Reporter, 2hours Foundations of Health & Safety Training, 5hours Travel No travel required. Physical Demands Regularly required to talk or hear.
