Federal Work Study - Athletic First Responders (AFR)

ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is currently seeking several Athletic First Responders. The Athletic First Responders assist in training, evaluations, and athlete care of Sport Program activities, specifically club sports where they will evaluate and assist in emergencies and administer immediate first aid and CPR if necessary. Additional duties include completing daily reports and forms, monitoring and controlling AT equipment and supplies, communicating with Sport Program and Athletic Training staff, and working with contestants, employees, and club representatives to ensure an overall safe environment for participants.

Responsibilities include assisting with the planning and implementation of staff training and development, communicating updates with Sport Program Staff via Microsoft Teams and email, evaluating, observing, and providing care to selected club sports during weekly practice and games, developing one's knowledge, performance, and abilities through supervisor and self-reflection, administering immediate first aid and CPR when necessary, completing the Accident Report form in detail for all injuries requiring attention, performing additional tasks assigned as business dictates, providing feedback to injured persons and making recommendations on further care, utilizing critical thinking skills to handle potential injuries, communicating with Athletic Training Staff when injuries occur, knowing and implementing the Emergency Action Plan procedures for each facility when the opportunity presents itself, reporting to the activity site as assigned by When, working with appropriate attire and equipment for each assigned activity including but not limited to club sport practice, club sport games/matches, and external reservations, organizing and inventorying equipment in the first aid kits before and after each shift, holding employees accountable for policies and expectations of the Club Sports Staff to provide feedback constructively and document any concerns regarding employee performance, assisting with water setup and breakdown for participants for club sport practices and games, assisting Athletic Trainers in the Athletic Training Room with office duties, being able to track weather and decide when to suspend play regarding inclement weather, checking in with opposing teams on Smartsheet and ensuring they have completed the waiver, and working with the Sports Programs Supervisor and Athletic Trainers when assigned to the event.

Position is considered seasonal employment with varying hours dependent upon the calendar of activities. Reports to the Assistant Director of Athletic Training.

GPA Requirement: Minimum of 2.0

Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.): Health Science major, Freshman preferred

License/certification required: Valid driver's license CPR/AED/First Aid
