The Security Associate, under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion related to ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by monitoring all activity at assigned locations. The Security Associate maintains visibility and vigilance, establishes rapport with and relates professionally with students and staff to effectively address security and safety concerns of the school. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal. Hourly NC 08/Full-time Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Respond, report and deter inappropriate actions or activities from both internal and external sources Manage and monitor traffic control points as assigned Maintain records on activities and students Evaluate prevention measures, maintain crisis plans, and respond to school/department emergencies Provide security and crowd control for school activities, sports, and special events Assist the Rapid Response Associates with safe school audits Assist administrative staff in lockdown procedures Prepare the "crash box" for school Be familiar with building emergency action and evacuation plans Work with School Resource Officer and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Police Department on crime prevention techniques Work with Property Managers to help identify building and grounds safety concerns May write disciplinary referrals for students Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies Knowledge of the National Incident Command System for use in critical incidents Knowledgeable of current first-response tactics and techniques Knowledge of current first-response tactics and techniques, including Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Program Skilled in communication, both verbal and in writing Ability to perform random metal searches, soft target identification, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design functions Ability to perform effectively and efficiently in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment Ability to diffuse differences through conflict resolution Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to communicate effectively Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED required Three (3) years of related work experience required NIMS (National Incident Management System) Certification, levels 100, 200, 700 required Prior military and/or law enforcement experience preferred Equivalent combination of education and experience Special Requirements Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment regularly requires standing and walking Work requires infrequent bending, squatting, reaching, running and the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights less than 50 pounds Working environment has infrequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes, and blood borne pathogens Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work Ability to move to other work locations Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, use of advanced technology Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic) Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress In compliance with Federal Law, Charlotte - Mecklenburg Schools administers all education programs, employment activities and admissions without discrimination against any person on the basis of gender, race, color, religion, national origin, age or disability. #J-18808-Ljbffr Esd113
