Skills and Competencies8+ years of hands-on experience delivering high-impact, multi-team technical projectsProficiency in Java, Scala, C#, C++, or PythonExperience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle) and NoSQL data storesProven development of production-quality RESTful APIs and microservicesExperience with cloud-native application development using Docker and Kubernetes, as well as on-prem solutionsStrong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principlesFocus on scalability, availability, reliability, security, and cost-effective executionDemonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using tools such as Copilot, Claude, and ChatGPT to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiencyEducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experienceResponsibilitiesThe Staff Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of complex, large-scale technical solutions while influencing strategy, mentoring engineers, and driving high-impact outcomes across multiple teams.Define and execute multi-year, multi-team technical strategies with measurable business impactDeliver large-scale, high-stakes projects that exceed quality and reliability standardsDrive alignment across engineering teams to prioritize impactful customer outcomesInfluence technical roadmaps and strategic decisions through sound engineering judgmentMentor engineers and foster a strong culture of technical excellence and growthDesign, build, and maintain scalable and resilient software architecturesProactively identify, manage, and mitigate technical risksPartner with product teams to align technical trade-offs with customer valueAbout the TeamThe Data Platform Engineering team supports key products and platform components within Moody’s Insurance group, including Risk Modeler, Data Bridge, Underwrite IQ, and the Unified Data Store. The team focuses on building scalable and reliable platforms and services across databases, REST APIs, and core platform capabilities, leveraging technologies such as Java, C#, and SQL Server to enable high-quality, data-driven solutions.For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $168,100.00 - $243,700.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
