Position Overview

This role is essential for delivering expert, patient-focused care within a telemetry unit in a regional healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level combines specialized skills and certifications to independently manage patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Monitor patients with continuous cardiac telemetry, perform detailed assessments, respond to acute cardiac and neurological changes, administer medications including non-titratable drips, and develop individualized care plans. Act as a compassionate patient advocate and provide education to patients and families on medical conditions and lifestyle adjustments.
• Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean environment adhering to infection control and regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and promptly report safety concerns.
• Documentation: Accurately document all patient care activities and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following established standards.
• Professional Development and Leadership: Mentor new nurses and students, engage in continuing education, serve as a resource for telemetry best practices, and act as Relief Charge Nurse when needed.
• Emergency Preparedness: Respond swiftly and effectively to cardiac emergencies, utilizing advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care settings. Transitional RN candidates must have two years in acute care or similar environments.
• Proficient in post-procedure care including cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG monitoring.
• Strong skills in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.

• Technical proficiency with centralized cardiac monitoring systems.
• Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry nursing experience may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current RN license valid in the state of practice.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for Progressive Care Unit roles; transitional RNs must obtain within six months.
• Preferred: Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) certification.

All candidates must successfully complete a physical exam, drug screening, and background check prior to employment.
