Position Information Position Title: Director of Finance & Accounting Department: Finance & Accounting Reports To: President / Executive Leadership Supervises: AR/AP Specialist, Payroll & Union Administrator FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary SET is seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Finance & Accounting to lead our accounting department and serve as a strategic financial partner to executive leadership. This position is ideal for a construction accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, building systems, solving business problems, and helping organizations grow. Unlike a traditional corporate finance position, this role combines executive-level financial leadership with hands-on ownership of the accounting department. The Director will lead the monthly close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, banking relationships, cash management, and accounting operations while driving continuous improvement throughout the department. This individual will become the Company’s senior financial leader and will play a key role in shaping the future of our organization. Position Objectives The Director of Finance & Accounting will: Lead all accounting operations Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting Improve accounting processes Develop meaningful financial reporting for executive leadership Strengthen internal controls Improve visibility into company performance Build scalable financial systems Partner with operations to support strategic decision making Success in this role is measured not only by accurate financial statements, but by the value provided to the business. Essential Responsibilities Financial Leadership Lead the Company’s financial operations. Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership. Develop financial strategies supporting company growth. Provide financial analysis for business decisions. Develop executive financial dashboards. Identify financial risks and opportunities. Improve visibility into company performance. Accounting Operations Own the monthly and annual close process. Review journal entries and general ledger activity. Prepare and review financial statements. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable. Oversee payroll accounting. Review account reconciliations. Maintain fixed asset records. Manage sales and use tax compliance. Coordinate annual audits. Ensure GAAP compliance. Construction Accounting Oversee Work-in-Progress reporting. Review job cost reporting. Monitor contract profitability. Review revenue recognition. Support equipment accounting. Review indirect cost allocations. Understand union payroll accounting. Support certified payroll reporting. Monitor project financial performance. Financial Planning Develop annual budgets. Maintain rolling financial forecasts. Develop cash flow projections. Support banking relationships. Support bonding capacity. Evaluate financing alternatives. Analyze capital investments. Process Improvement Continuously improve accounting operations by: Reducing month-end close time. Improving reporting accuracy. Standardizing procedures. Eliminating unnecessary manual work. Implementing automation where practical. Improving internal controls. Documenting accounting processes. Building scalable financial systems. Leadership Lead the accounting department. Coach and develop team members. Establish accountability. Build a culture of ownership. Improve communication across departments. Partner closely with Operations. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 10+ years of progressive accounting experience 5+ years of construction accounting experience Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience Strong understanding of: Job Cost Accounting Work-in-Progress Reporting Revenue Recognition Financial Statements Budgeting Forecasting Internal Controls Banking Bonding Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Preferred Qualifications CPA designation Heavy Civil construction experience Multi-entity accounting Union contractor experience Certified payroll experience ERP implementation experience Power BI experience Business Intelligence experience Process improvement leadership Microsoft Power Platform familiarity Leadership Competencies The successful candidate will demonstrate: Ownership — Accepts responsibility for results without waiting for direction.
