Wildlife Biologist 3

Job Description Wildlife Biologist 3 (Dillingham Area Wildlife Biologist - PCN 112069) Position located in Dillingham, Alaska. This role manages terrestrial wildlife in the northern Bristol Bay area, covering about 20,000 square miles, and works within Game Management Unit 17. Responsibilities Oversee the Mulchatna caribou herd, administer hunting and trapping seasons, address nuisance wildlife and public safety issues, and provide expert advice on wildlife populations and management for conservation. Manage an active predation control program to support critical caribou populations. Serve as the contact for hunting & trapping information, licenses, permits, and harvest data for bear, caribou, and moose. Perform daily work tasks including report writing, data analysis, wildlife surveys, investigations, and capturing/handling wildlife. Supervise one Wildlife Biologist II and one Program Technician. Require frequent travel within the management area and state, use firearms, fly in small fixed‑wing and rotor aircraft in mountainous environments, and work occasionally at night and on weekends. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field, or equivalent credits meeting specified requirements. One year of full‑performance professional biologist experience as a Wildlife Biologist 2, Fishery Biologist 2, Habitat Biologist 2, or Fisheries Geneticist 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent. Design and implement effective wildlife management programs for large game populations. Capture, immobilize, and perform physical examinations of large mammal species. Complete data analysis, population modeling, set sustainable harvest goals, and produce technical reports. Proficiency with firearms and experience flying in small aircraft in mountainous terrain. Experience addressing public and stakeholder inquiries on complex regulations, both orally and in writing. Required Certifications & Licenses Valid driver’s license. Firearms proficiency (position may hold or have access to firearms). Federal (FAA) pilot’s license and State of Alaska aviation credentials (recommended). Animal capture and immobilization certification, animal welfare training. Certification as a Wildlife Biologist by professional society (recommended).
