Radiology Aide

SUMMARY: Prepare patients for exams and transport patients to and from various modalities. Prepare rooms for procedures and process films and CDs. Assist radiologists and technologists in procedures by moving patients and obtaining supplies and equipment. Optimize patient throughput by adjusting schedules, retrieving protocols, orders, and requisitions from referring physicians. Maintain current CPR certification. Participate in department and interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Identify patients following policy and assist physicians in locating images within RIS, EMR, and PACS workstations. Follow all MRI safety procedures; complete Level I and II MR Safety Training. Prepare patients for MRI, CT, or other radiology exams by: Instructing patients to change into gowns/pants. Explaining the procedure. Setting supplies needed by the technologist. Asking patients screening questions. Scanning paperwork into EMR. Preparing and setting up rooms for procedures. Assisting technologists in setting up sterile trays. Assisting technologists during procedures as needed. Transport patients within the Diagnostic Imaging Department and to/from the Emergency Department or floors as necessary. Maintain cleanliness of radiological rooms and patient changing rooms; stock both men's and women's changing rooms daily. Process patient information in RIS system, including verifying exams, adding, and canceling appropriate exam charges. Ensure patient flow and throughput is consistent; when appointment times conflict, remain in contact with patients. Obtain protocols for patients, GFR/Creatinine levels as necessary for CT/MRI examinations. Ensure patients are thoroughly screened for ferromagnetic objects prior to entering zone 3; conduct final safety checks and guide patients entering zone 4. Perform other related functions as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent. Limited medical terminology and computer keyboard skills. Current CPR certification and patient care skills; prior work experience in a medical field. Physical ability to stand/squat 1–3 hours and walk 3–7 hours, including frequent twisting, moderate bending, and lifting over 50 lbs with good body mechanics. Ability to use both hands/wrists and perform frequent fine‑motor skills with moderate repetitions. Accurate near‑ and far‑vision at 20/40, accurate depth perception, and discrimination between red‑green and blue‑violet. Able to hear a whisper at eight feet.
