Salary: $20.30/hour + $2–$3 shift differential

Shifts: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM and 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, with weekend availability required

About the Position

The BHT– Special Residential Services (SRS) provides direct care, supervision, structure, and therapeutic support to adolescent girls receiving residential behavioral health treatment at Mingus Mountain Youth Treatment Center.

This position is an important part of creating a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment where youth can stabilize, develop healthy relationships, build independence, and work toward their treatment goals.

Staff in this role work with adolescents who may have experienced complex trauma, abuse, neglect, exploitation, sex trafficking, substance use, and other significant adversity. The ideal candidate has a genuine desire to support vulnerable young women and help them build healthier, safer futures while maintaining strong professional boundaries, consistency, and accountability.

Experience working with youth, behavioral health, trauma, or other vulnerable populations is valued. Specialized training is provided to staff working with youth who have experienced sexual exploitation.

Youth Care Responsibilities

• Maintain the safety, security, and therapeutic structure of the residential environment.
• Provide active supervision and accountability of youth throughout the shift.
• Teach, coach, and supervise activities of daily living, including morning and bedtime routine, hygiene, housekeeping, meals, and personal organization.
• Supervise and facilitate life-skills activities and community-based outings designed to promote independence and successful community reintegration.
• Support youth during recreational activities, intramurals, sports, academics, extracurricular activities, and approved on- and off-campus activities.
• Help youth practice appropriate social skills, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and other independent living skills.
• Observe peer culture and identify patterns of behavior that may indicate progress, regression, conflict, unsafe relationships, bullying, or other concerns.
• Observe individual behavior over time and recognize progress toward treatment goals.
• Follow and implement individualized treatment plans, behavioral interventions, safety plans, and program expectations.
• Reinforce appropriate behavior through consistent coaching, positive reinforcement, redirection, and accountability.
• Establish healthy, professional relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate boundaries and avoiding favoritism or over-involvement.
• Recognize escalating behaviors and intervene at the appropriate level to maintain safety and security.
• Utilize trauma-informed, de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
• Effectively communicate with youth and members of the multidisciplinary team, both verbally and in writing.
• Accurately document behavioral observations, incidents, interventions, and other relevant information.
• Report safety concerns, suspected abuse or exploitation, boundary concerns, and significant behavioral changes through appropriate channels.
• Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy, dignity, and safety of youth.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and other professional development activities.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and therapeutic residential environment.
• Support clinical programming and therapeutic activities as directed by clinical and residential leadership.
• Follow all MMYTC policies, procedures, licensing requirements, and safety protocols.

Specialized Residential Services

BHT Specialized Residential Services (SRS) staff may work with youth who have experienced complex trauma, abuse, neglect, exploitation, substance use, or other adverse experiences. Staff are expected to understand that trauma can influence behavior, emotional regulation, relationships, trust, and responses to authority.

Staff working within specialized programming receive additional training related to trauma-informed care, vulnerability to exploitation, unhealthy relationship dynamics, grooming behaviors, boundaries, and safety risks. Staff are responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, recognizing concerns, and communicating appropriately with the treatment team.

The role is not to investigate or provide specialized trauma therapy. Rather, BHT-SRS staff provide consistent structure, supervision, safety, positive modeling, life-skills coaching, and appropriate support while collaborating with the clinical team.

Youth Care Qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must be able to pass a thorough background check and obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a field related to behavioral health OR an associate's degree and at least two years of full-time behavioral health work experience OR a high school diploma/high school equivalency diploma and four years of full-time behavioral health work experience.
• Experience working with youth and/or in behavioral health settings preferred.
• Strong professional boundaries and appropriate judgment when working with adolescents.
• Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional during challenging behaviors.
• Strong communication, observation, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment environment.
• A genuine interest in supporting adolescent girls who have experienced trauma, adversity, and other significant life challenges.
