Surgical Technician-NCA

The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for this position is on the preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment. This individual assists the surgeon during the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technician administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, ranging from neonates to geriatrics. This position requires knowledge of specific procedures or specialties, effective prioritization, planning, and problem-solving due to the dynamic nature of surgical situations. The Surgical Technician must be able to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique is essential. This knowledge should be applied in all patient and family interactions. The Surgical Technician must display aseptic technique in the performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. Responsibilities include demonstrating responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation. The individual consistently performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. Knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice are required.
