Assistant Technical Designer

Location: New York City (Hybrid - 4 days onsite, Fridays remote) Schedule: Full-Time Compensation: $29-$31/hour About the Opportunity Our client is a leading global apparel company with a portfolio of well-known lifestyle, intimates, activewear, and apparel brands sold through major retail and direct-to-consumer channels. They are seeking an Assistant Technical Designer to support the Technical Design team in delivering high-quality products that meet fit, construction, and performance standards while maintaining the intended design aesthetic. Position Summary The Assistant Technical Designer will support the development process from concept through production by assisting with fit sessions, maintaining technical specifications, tracking sample progress, and ensuring product execution aligns with design intent. This role partners closely with Technical Design, Design, Product Development, Sourcing, and factory partners to deliver products that meet quality, fit, and timeline expectations. Key Responsibilities Assist with fit sessions and evaluate garments for fit, construction, quality, and design intent. Partner with Technical Design and Design teams to communicate fit corrections and construction updates. Update and maintain technical packages, measurement charts, fit comments, and product specifications. Track sample progress throughout development to ensure key milestones and deadlines are met. Monitor factory sample submissions, approvals, testing requirements, and final production specifications. Support day-to-day product development activities while maintaining seasonal calendars and timelines. Review and communicate fit and construction revisions with internal teams and overseas vendors. Help identify opportunities to improve product quality, fit consistency, and overall execution while maintaining cost and timing requirements. Ensure all product information, fit comments, approvals, and specifications are accurately maintained within the PLM system. Maintain organized development records and support reporting and tracking processes. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, Patternmaking, Apparel Development, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years of technical design experience within the apparel industry. Strong understanding of garment construction, fit evaluation, patterns, and apparel manufacturing processes. Ability to interpret and execute design intent while maintaining fit and quality standards. Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel. Experience working within a PLM system required; Centric PLM experience preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting apparel categories such as intimates, sleepwear, loungewear, activewear, or lifestyle apparel. Familiarity working with overseas factories and vendor partners. Understanding of apparel product development calendars and production timelines.
