Communications Specialist

Communications Specialist City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is seeking a dedicated Communications Specialist to assist with production taping, editing, engineering, maintenance, development and/or technical aspects of media productions and on‑air programming in the area of television. Responsibilities As a Communications Specialist, you spend your day using a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgement and decision‑making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. On a daily basis you will use your customer service and public relations skills. Your work will require knowledge of English language usage and the terminology used by various news media, and accepted practices of news gathering, writing, and reporting. Must have strong writing skills, ability to compose written material and disseminate public relations information for release to the media. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance, and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone with public skills in public relations, video and phone camera, social media tools, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do. Qualifications Required Education: Associate’s degree. Education Preference: Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or related fields. Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements. Required Work Experience: Experience in communications/marketing field. Experience Preference: Two (2) years’ experience in related field. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred. Must have a current valid class "C" driver’s license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
