Application Engineering Lead

Job Summary:

The Senior Application Engineering Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight for Java-based application portfolios, focusing on architecture, software engineering, modernization, performance optimization, security compliance, and delivery of enhancements. This role ensures high-quality, secure, and modernized applications through collaboration with cross-functional teams and adherence to best practices. Responsibilities:

Lead technical design and development activities for Java-based applications.
Provide architecture oversight and enforce engineering governance.
Manage application modernization initiatives and reduce technical debt.
Support system integration, API development, and data management.
Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues.
Review code quality, security compliance, and engineering best practices.
Support Authority to Operate (ATO) compliance, vulnerability remediation, and security scanning.
Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to implement automated CI/CD pipelines.
Develop system architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and migration strategies.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
10+ years of software engineering experience.
7+ years supporting Java enterprise applications.
Experience with AWS cloud environments.
Knowledge of application modernization in federal programs.
Proficiency with Java, WildFly, OpenLiberty, and Oracle 19c.
Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube, and security scanning platforms.
Familiarity with Red Hat Linux environments.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience with AWS RDS and cloud database management.
Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and automated pipeline implementation.
Familiarity with federal compliance standards and ATO processes.

Special Considerations:

Must adhere to strict security and compliance requirements.
May require participation in vulnerability remediation and security scanning activities.
Role involves leadership in a regulated federal application environment.

Scheduling:

Standard full-time work schedule with potential on-call responsibilities for production issue resolution.
May require flexibility to support urgent troubleshooting and deployment activities.
