Vice President, MEP Healthcare Lead - Buildings

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Vice President, Healthcare Lead to join our Property & Buildings team in Seattle, WA .

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with deep healthcare facility experience and a strong record of developing client relationships, leading strategic pursuits, and delivering complex multidisciplinary healthcare projects. The successful candidate will help shape and execute WSP’s healthcare growth strategy in the Pacific Northwest while serving as a trusted advisor to healthcare clients and industry partners.

This individual will be responsible for expanding WSP’s healthcare market presence, strengthening relationships with healthcare systems, architects, contractors, and strategic partners, and positioning multidisciplinary teams for new and repeat work. The role will combine healthcare market leadership, client development, team leadership, technical oversight, and executive-level project guidance.

The Vice President, Healthcare Lead will collaborate with local, regional, and national leaders to connect clients with WSP’s full range of Property & Buildings capabilities. The selected candidate will also support the successful delivery of complex healthcare environments, including acute-care hospitals, medical centers, ambulatory and outpatient facilities, specialty clinics, research facilities, central utility plants, and campus infrastructure programs.

Your Impact

Healthcare Market Leadership and Growth

• Lead the development and execution of a healthcare market growth strategy for Seattle, the Pacific Northwest, and other priority regional markets.
• Strengthen WSP’s position as a trusted advisor to healthcare systems, facility owners, architects, contractors, developers, and strategic partners.
• Identify emerging healthcare market trends, capital programs, client needs, and partnership opportunities that support sustainable business growth.
• Develop and maintain an active healthcare opportunity pipeline aligned with local, regional, and national business priorities.
• Establish measurable growth objectives and help translate market strategy into client-development, pursuit, and project-delivery activities.
• Collaborate with regional and national healthcare leaders to coordinate client strategies, market intelligence, investment priorities, and cross-selling opportunities.
• Represent WSP within healthcare industry organizations, professional associations, conferences, and community events.
• Promote WSP’s integrated healthcare capabilities across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, technology, sustainability, commissioning, and specialty services.

Client Leadership and Business Development

• Build, maintain, and expand senior-level relationships with healthcare clients and key industry partners.
• Serve as an executive-level client advisor, helping healthcare organizations address complex facility, infrastructure, operational, resilience, and sustainability challenges.
• Lead strategic client engagement, account planning, capture planning, and positioning activities for major healthcare opportunities.
• Lead or contribute to go/no-go decisions, pursuit strategies, proposals, technical narratives, interviews, presentations, scope development, fee development, and contract negotiations.
• Develop strong relationships with architects, contractors, program managers, owners’ representatives, and specialty consultants active in the healthcare market.
• Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients and introduce WSP capabilities across multiple disciplines and business lines.
• Maintain accountability for client satisfaction, relationship continuity, and the development of repeat business.
• Translate complex engineering and infrastructure concepts into clear, compelling business and client value propositions.

Healthcare Project and Technical Leadership

• Provide executive and technical leadership for complex healthcare projects from early planning and programming through design, construction, commissioning, occupancy, and closeout.
• Serve as a senior advisor, project executive, technical principal, or discipline leader, as appropriate, based on project and client needs.
• Guide integrated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, technology, sustainability, and commissioning teams in delivering coordinated healthcare solutions.
• Provide oversight of project scope, schedule, staffing, budget, quality, risk, financial performance, and client satisfaction.
• Support the development of reliable, resilient, maintainable, and sustainable building systems for complex clinical environments.
• Guide teams in addressing healthcare-specific priorities such as patient and staff safety, infection prevention, redundancy, emergency operations, infrastructure resilience, phasing, constructability, maintainability, and continuity of operations.
• Provide executive oversight on renovations, expansions, replacements, and new construction within active or occupied healthcare environments.
• Lead or participate in technical reviews, peer reviews, design workshops, value analysis, risk reviews, constructability reviews, and quality assurance activities.
• Ensure project teams consider applicable healthcare codes, standards, regulatory requirements, accreditation considerations, and local authority requirements.
• Facilitate resolution of complex technical, contractual, financial, staffing, and client-service challenges.
• Promote innovation, electrification, decarbonization, energy efficiency, resilience, digital delivery, and future-ready healthcare infrastructure solutions.

People and Practice Leadership

• Build, lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary healthcare teams across Seattle and the broader region.
• Foster a collaborative culture focused on healthcare expertise, technical excellence, accountability, innovation, and exceptional client service.
• Partner with leadership and Talent Acquisition on strategic recruiting, workforce planning, succession planning, and retention efforts.
• Identify and develop future healthcare market leaders, project executives, client leaders, technical experts, and project managers.
• Coach staff on client engagement, business development, healthcare project delivery, multidisciplinary collaboration, and executive communication.
• Support resource planning and the effective deployment of talent across offices, disciplines, and healthcare programs.
• Encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration across WSP’s regional, national, and global healthcare network.
• Promote an inclusive environment that supports professional growth, employee engagement, safety, ethics, and high performance.
• Contribute to healthcare-focused training, technical communities, lessons learned, best practices, and quality improvement initiatives.

Operational and Strategic Leadership

• Contribute to strategic planning, annual business planning, forecasting, budgeting, and performance monitoring for the healthcare practice.
• Support healthcare revenue growth, backlog development, project profitability, utilization, staffing, and resource management goals.
• Monitor the health of the healthcare pipeline and help align staffing and investment decisions with anticipated workload.
• Collaborate with local and regional leaders to improve project performance, operational consistency, quality, and risk management.
• Ensure responsible and ethical decision-making related to company funds, resources, contracts, client relationships, and professional conduct.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and applicable safety, quality, risk, and compliance requirements.
• Exercise sound professional judgment and provide pragmatic leadership within a changing healthcare and business environment.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline .
• 12+ years of progressive professional experience in engineering, design, project delivery, and leadership within the Property & Buildings or A/E/C industry.
• Significant experience supporting the planning, design, and delivery of healthcare facilities, including hospitals, medical centers, outpatient facilities, specialty clinical spaces, research facilities, or healthcare campus infrastructure.
• Professional Engineer PE license required, with the ability to obtain Washington licensure if not currently held.
• Demonstrated success developing and maintaining client relationships within the healthcare market.
• Proven experience identifying, pursuing, and securing new work through relationship development, strategic positioning, proposals, presentations, and pursuit leadership.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex multidisciplinary healthcare projects and teams.
• Strong understanding of healthcare facility planning, building systems, project delivery, construction, and operational requirements.
• Working knowledge of healthcare-related codes, standards, regulations, and authority requirements relevant to the candidate’s engineering discipline.
• Experience providing executive or senior-level oversight of project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, risk, and financial performance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering, project management, and technical staff.
• Established professional network within the healthcare, engineering, architecture, construction, or facilities community.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare executives, facility leaders, architects, contractors, technical professionals, and internal leadership.
• Ability to travel as needed to support clients, project teams, industry activities, and business-development efforts.
• Proven commitment to workplace safety, quality, ethical conduct, and professional responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
• Active Professional Engineer license in Washington and additional states.
• Established relationships with healthcare systems, architects, contractors, and industry partners in Seattle, Washington, or the broader Pacific Northwest.
• Demonstrated experience as a Healthcare Sector Leader, Healthcare Practice Leader, Project Executive, Principal, Discipline Leader, or senior client leader.
• Experience leading major hospital, academic medical center, pediatric, behavioral health, cancer treatment, ambulatory care, or healthcare campus programs.
• Experience supporting healthcare master planning, campus infrastructure planning, facility modernization, resilience, decarbonization, or operational readiness programs.
• Experience with alternative project delivery approaches such as design-build, progressive design-build, integrated project delivery, or design-assist.
• LEED AP, WELL AP, PMP, DBIA, Certified Healthcare Constructor, Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, or another relevant professional credential.
• Active participation in healthcare-focused professional associations or industry organizations.
• Experience leading teams, pursuits, or healthcare programs across multiple offices or geographic markets.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $174,400 - $259,100

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
