Registered Nurse - Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) - RN

Role Overview The Wound Ostomy Nurse (WON) will provide expert, integrated, and cost‑effective quality patient care for high‑risk patients with complex wound, ostomy, and continence issues across the continuum of care settings at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. The position requires a valid RN license, a WOC or equivalent certification within 24 months of employment, and the ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on‑call as needed. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which will require state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or an equivalent certification. Responsibilities Focus on the quality of care provided for individuals with ostomies, fistulas, draining wounds, tubes, altered skin integrity, and incontinence. Facilitate rehabilitation and health maintenance through assessment of needs, education, counseling, and coordination of care for patients and families. Collaborate with other health‑care professionals, serving as a care provider, educator, and consultant across a variety of settings throughout the medical center. Report to the Ambulatory Nurse Manager and work cooperatively with many disciplines related to the wound‑ostomy‑continence specialty. Act as a liaison between the consumer, community, and professional organizations related to the clinical specialty. Provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership activities, and quality improvement efforts. Participate in committees or projects that advance nursing practice within the specialty. Qualifications Graduate of a baccalaureate program accredited by the Accredited Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) – BSN required. At least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic if graduation was more than two years ago. Additional Qualifications Wound and Ostomy certification preferred; if not possessed, certification must be obtained within two years of hire. Minimum one year of successful work experience in medical‑surgical nursing within the past five years if not currently practicing as a WOC RN. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and competence in the specialty area. Strong analytical skills to collect, compare, sort, and prioritize information for decision‑making. Ability to manage stress, solve complex problems, and work independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required; prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Flexibility to work unpredictable hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call. Leadership, effective communication, and critical thinking skills. Ability to work at multiple locations and practice settings. Schedule: Sunday–Saturday, days, 8‑hour shifts with variable start times. Weekend schedule includes every 6th Saturday. No international assignment. Variable start times may require on‑call days.
