Dental Hygienist Overview The Dental Hygienist will provide essential preventative oral health care services in a dynamic clinical environment. Deliver clinical, educational, and therapeutic services to promote optimal oral health for patients. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, treatment plans, and preventative care strategies. Perform dental cleanings, scaling, root planning, and administer therapeutic agents. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, infection control, and universal precautions. Conduct oral cancer screenings, perio assessments, and document dental findings accurately. Adhere to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. Collaborate with the dental team to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes. Contribute to the organization’s commitment to high-quality dental services. Dental Hygienist Key Responsibilities & Duties Provide dental education, including oral hygiene instructions and treatment plan reviews. Expose radiographs and perform dental cleanings, scaling, and root planning. Administer local anesthesia, fluoride treatments, and therapeutic agents as needed. Inspect and sterilize instruments, ensuring operatory disinfection before and after each patient. Collect patient data, update medical history, and request medical clearance when necessary. Perform oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments, documenting findings accurately. Set up and break down operatories and treatment bays efficiently. Teach patients effective oral hygiene strategies, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling. Maintain compliance with all regulatory and organizational policies. Dental Hygienist Job Requirements Vocational, Technical, or Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene required. Licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the state of Massachusetts mandatory. 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred; entry-level candidates considered. Proof of immunity for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and recent Tdap vaccination required. Annual Tuberculosis (TB) test results with documented induration measurements necessary. Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and infection control practices essential. Ability to perform clinical assessments and document findings accurately. Excellent communication skills to educate and interact with patients effectively.
