Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to experience the day-to‑day operations of a practice, gaining valuable hands‑on clinical experience in a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Responsibilities Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories. Perform physical exams and create comprehensive treatment plans. Assist with diagnostics, dentistry services, and observe or assist with surgical procedures. Manage medical care of patients and practice effective communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Duration and Eligibility Externship experiences at Foothills Veterinary Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Eligible students in the clinical portion of their education receive a travel and living expense stipend.
