CNC Set-Up Machinist
Location: Elk Grove Village, IL
Pay Range: $25-$30/hr
Position Summary: Seeking a CNC Set-Up Machinist to support precision manufacturing operations by performing complete machine setups and production support on CNC mills and lathes. This role requires experience with tooling, fixturing, offsets, first-article inspections, and working with Mastercam-generated programs in a tight-tolerance machining environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complete setups on CNC mills and lathes, including tooling installation, fixturing, workholding, and offset adjustments.
- Load, prove out, and run Mastercam-generated CNC programs.
- Conduct first-article inspections and make adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Monitor production runs, tool wear, and process performance while making necessary corrections.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements.
- Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, fixturing, materials, or machine performance.
- Collaborate with programmers and engineers to improve setup efficiency, cycle times, and process consistency.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of CNC setup experience on mills and/or lathes.
- Hands-on experience with CNC machining in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of Mastercam and the ability to run CAM-generated programs.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Experience performing first-article inspections and maintaining tight tolerances.
- Knowledge of tooling, fixturing, offsets, and machine setup procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis machining.
- Ability to make basic CNC program edits using G-Code.
- Experience in aerospace, medical, automotive, or high-mix/low-volume manufacturing.
- Familiarity with setup documentation and process optimization.
- Bilingual Polish and English.
