Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a manufacturing facility, production equipment, and supporting systems in a food and confectionery environment. This hands-on role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment inspections, and general facility upkeep for chocolate manufacturing, processing, packaging, and material-handling operations. The Maintenance Technician follows established procedures, responds quickly to equipment issues, and works closely with Production, Quality, Warehouse, and other departments to minimize downtime and maintain a safe, productive workplace.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and supporting equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other equipment issues within the scope of training and qualifications.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production-related maintenance requests to minimize production interruptions.
• Support maintenance of equipment used in chocolate manufacturing, processing, packaging, and material-handling operations, including conveyor systems.
• Assist with troubleshooting motors, sensors, switches, electrical controls, PLC-controlled equipment, and other automated systems within the employees level of training.
• Inspect equipment for wear, damage, leaks, loose components, abnormal operation, and other conditions that could lead to equipment failure or safety concerns.
• Perform routine adjustments, repairs, replacements, lubrication, cleaning, and other required maintenance activities according to established procedures.
• Assist with equipment installation, relocation, modification, setup, and commissioning as directed by leadership.
• Support and coordinate with outside contractors, equipment manufacturers, and service technicians when necessary.
• Maintain tools, equipment, replacement parts, supplies, and maintenance work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Complete assigned preventive maintenance activities accurately and on schedule, following established procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify potential equipment problems before they result in breakdowns or production interruptions.
• Communicate recurring equipment problems or abnormal equipment conditions to the Lead Maintenance Technician and escalate significant issues appropriately.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and overall equipment performance.
• Assist with maintaining appropriate inventories of commonly used and critical replacement parts and notify the Lead Maintenance Technician when parts, tools, supplies, or outside services may be needed.
• Follow all workplace safety guidelines, demonstrate urgency and attention to detail, and contribute to a safe, productive manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair motors, pumps, belts, and related mechanical components.
• Hands-on experience working with a minimum of 220V electrical systems.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with maintenance repair activities in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical documentation.
• Experience with conveyor systems in a production environment.
• Basic PLC troubleshooting capability within the scope of training.
• Strong attention to detail, urgency, and commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to follow established maintenance procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
• Effective communication skills to report equipment concerns and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in food manufacturing environments is a plus.
• Confectionery manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
• Exposure to 480V electrical systems is beneficial.
• Experience working with pumps, motors, and gear boxes in an industrial setting.
• Familiarity with pneumatics and hydraulics used in manufacturing equipment.
• Experience in PLC troubleshooting and working with automated control systems.
• Ability to assist with equipment installation, relocation, modification, and commissioning.
• Experience supporting outside contractors and service technicians during maintenance or repair projects.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift role with standard hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., currently operating on 10-hour days with an expectation of approximately 5060 hours per week. Most Saturdays are worked during peak holiday seasons such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Mothers Day. The position is based in a food manufacturing facility focused on chocolate and confectionery production, with active production areas, packaging lines, and material-handling equipment. Work shirts can be provided, and employees must wear a hair net in compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements. The environment requires adherence to safety and cleanliness standards while working around mechanical, electrical, and automated equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
