Key Responsibilities

• Function in the scrub role by preparing, organizing, and anticipating needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care and operative procedures across a 7-room surgical suite
• Safely and efficiently pass surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room (OR); properly identify, preserve, and manage tissue and fluid specimens and cultures
• Define and practice aseptic technique and infection control principles as they apply to the OR environment
• Handle and prepare medications for use on the sterile field under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and physician; deliver medications received in the surgical suite to the appropriate OR via case cart or medication cart
• Assist the perioperative nurse with patient care including transporting, positioning, and counting/prepping surgical instruments and supplies
• Manage supplies, instruments, and equipment appropriately; may apply skin staples when skin edges have been approximated by a credentialed physician/PA/APRN, and may apply skin sealant and steristrips as part of dressing after skin has been closed — will not first assist with any procedure and will not perform any incision closures

Required Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or successful completion of a Surgical Technology program required — on-the-job training alone will not be accepted
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a busy surgical area (Level II trauma or higher)
• Previous travel assignment experience required
• BLS certification required
• Strong hands-on experience required in the following specialties: General (robotic and open), Orthopedics (fractures and total joints), ENT (pediatrics, T&As, BMTs, parathyroid, thyroid, neck, ear, and sinus procedures), Vascular (carotid, AAA, hybrid cases, open procedures), Robotics (da Vinci XI), GYN (robotic and open), and Urology (robotic and open)
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred
• Experience in dental and plastics surgical cases
• Familiarity with surgical equipment such as Storz video systems, Stryker drills, Leica Microscopes, and Skytron/Getinge OR beds
• Experience with electronic charting systems and OR-specific software platforms
