Research Associate 2, HSS

Overview Located at the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, the Research Associate will serve as the project manager within the Camenga lab, overseeing day‑to‑day operations. The lab is running two randomized trials on substance use prevention interventions for adolescents. The Research Associate manages the research projects, including patient recruitment, data collection, regulatory compliance, supervising PGAs, RAs, and students, completing IRB reports and clinicaltrials.gov updates, and assisting with reports and publications. This position is Hybrid: first 90 days fully onsite with 1 day flexibility remote, after that 3 days per week onsite. Primary Responsibilities Carry out research within the scope of the established study protocol and adhere to all human subjects regulations defined by Yale University and federal law. Develop criteria for admission of study subjects based on goals and objectives of the project. Determine potential sources of funding and prospective partnerships. Evaluate feasibility of accepting potential projects through analysis of staffing needs, resource requirements, financial costs, and current capacity of the group, and negotiate contracts or changes with the funder. Develop original HIC/IRB submissions and collaborate with PIs on major revisions and protocol contributions. Create forms, questionnaires, and procedures manuals for data collection and coding. Document and transmit study data, ensuring that report forms are accurately completed in a timely manner at each site. Work independently to develop, manage, and organize multi‑site studies, serving as primary coordinator between the University, non‑Yale collaborators, pharmaceutical companies, HIC, IRB, and funding sources. Perform descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data using computer software. Design and implement quality control measures to ensure accurate collection and processing of data. Contribute in‑depth, original thought to written reports, abstracts, and manuscripts. Required Skills and Abilities Proven experience with clinical trials, including patient recruitment (obtaining informed consent) and regulatory submissions. Experience supervising others (students or research assistants). Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R) and experience preparing IRB protocols, amendments, and progress reports. Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic data collection tools. Preferred Skills and Abilities Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., public health, social sciences) with at least 2 years of experience in a research setting. Prior experience working on large‑scale research studies or multi‑visit projects. Required Education and Experience Master’s Degree in a related discipline and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
