Sr. Global Strategy Engineer, Global Engineering Strategy

Overview AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovations they rely on. The Global Engineering Strategy team (GES) seeks a senior data center engineer to drive front‑end engineering and design strategy for new owned and leased site developments. Responsibilities Lead engineering due diligence for new and expanding regions, site master planning, and overall site design strategy. Serve within the Design Engineering team of the broader Data Center Engineering (DCE) organization, collaborating with Real Estate, Risk and Resiliency, Power, Water, Fiber, Environmental, Pre‑Construction, and related partner teams on global design strategy implementation. Support data center site selection, review due diligence reports, lead site planning and development, and play a pivotal role in delivering data center designs. Collaborate with internal stakeholders during the due diligence phase to ensure design requirements are considered. Gather data to ensure prerequisites for the start of the design stage are met. Lead the pre‑design phase, manage internal partners and external vendor consultants, and ensure design‑ready deliverables are completed for successful design execution. Develop rollout strategy for new data center design types and intercepts that impact site master plans and design strategy. Provide engineering design decisions to partner teams for strategic planning and region selection. Collaborate with other DCE teams on new data center infrastructure products and design execution disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, structural engineering, and architecture). Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly with people at varying technical levels. Travel as needed (up to 25%); international support is part of the job. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas). Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field. Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineering or Architectural License. Knowledge of continuously operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment, and building management systems. Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production. Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
