The Basketball Analytics team partners across Basketball Operations to transform data, research, and technology into actionable insights for front office, coaching, scouting, player development, and basketball strategy stakeholders. As a Basketball Insights Analyst, you will be embedded in the coaching workflow and provide timely, reliable analytics support throughout the season. You will attend coaching meetings and practices, travel with the team as assigned, support opponent preparation and postgame review, manage ad hoc requests, and help coaches use analytics tools and information in their daily work. Strong communication, organization, responsiveness, accuracy, and basketball judgment are central to success in this role. What You Will Do Provide dependable day-to-day support for the coaching staff. Attend coaching meetings and practices to understand priorities, terminology, and tactical context. Travel with the team as assigned and support the staff throughout the pregame, in-game, and postgame cycle. Serve as a consistent point of contact for analytics questions, follow-up, and coordination. Build trust through preparation, responsiveness, discretion, and reliable execution. Support game planning and postgame review. Prepare recurring opponent, team, lineup, player, and matchup analysis for coaches. Answer quick-turn questions using internal tools, basketball data, video context, and other available information. Support postgame review by identifying relevant trends, possessions, lineup results, and questions that warrant follow-up. Escalate deeper research questions to the Basketball R&D Analyst and broader Data Science team. Manage requests and communicate clearly. Translate coaching questions into clear analytical tasks and confirm the intended decision or use case. Maintain visibility into active requests, priorities, deadlines, and completed work. Communicate progress, limitations, and results clearly, including when a request requires more time or a different approach. Deliver concise recommendations and supporting information in formats that fit the coaching staff's workflow. Operate and improve coaching analytics tools and workflows. Use, test, and help maintain reports, dashboards, applications, and workflows used by the coaching staff. Identify recurring manual work and opportunities for automation, better reporting, or new tools. Provide user feedback to the Basketball R&D Analyst, Software Engineering, and Database Engineering. Document recurring processes and quality-control steps to improve consistency and coverage. Growth Areas Game-cycle decision support. Develop a strong understanding of the information coaches need before, during, and after games. Improve the speed, accuracy, relevance, and consistency of recurring coaching analysis. Coaching communication and translation. Learn how to convert coaching language and tactical questions into analytical work. Build the judgment to determine what information is useful, how much detail is appropriate, and how it should be delivered. Tool adoption and workflow improvement. Help coaches use existing tools effectively and identify improvements that would make those tools more valuable. Work with R&D and Engineering to reduce recurring manual work and improve access to information. Basketball analytics development. Build technical and research skills through collaboration with the Basketball R&D Analyst, Data Scientists, and Basketball Analytics leadership. Contribute to deeper projects as experience, capacity, and organizational needs allow. People and Services Daily partnership across the coaching staff. Close work with the Basketball R&D Analyst on deeper research, proactive analysis, and tool development. Management, feedback, and technical support from Basketball Analytics leadership. Partnership with Software and Database Engineering on coach-facing tools, data quality, and workflow improvements. What You'll Bring Reliability and Responsiveness - A consistent record of following through, communicating status, meeting deadlines, and handling time-sensitive work accurately. Basketball Curiosity and Judgment - A strong desire to understand coaching strategy, ask useful questions, and connect information to real basketball decisions. Clear Communication - Strong listening, writing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information concisely and adjust to the audience. Organization and Attention to Detail - Ability to manage multiple requests, maintain quality under time pressure, and catch errors before work is distributed. Analytical Foundation - Comfort working with basketball data, spreadsheets, and analytical tools; experience with SQL and Python or R is preferred. Collaborative Approach - Ability to work effectively with coaches, analysts, engineers, scouts, video staff, and basketball leadership. Schedule Flexibility - Ability to work the schedule required by an NBA season, including travel, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Relevant Experience - Prior experience in basketball operations, coaching, video, scouting, analytics, or another high-performance team environment is preferred, but exceptional early-career candidates will be considered.
