About the Position: This is a time limited position. Provide oversight for all programmatic-related legal needs. Maintain the Administrative Rules for the Medical Cannabis Program, revising them as needed in collaboration with the Program Director on a continuous basis. Draft final guidance on ambiguous medical cannabis statute, administrative rules, and aspects of the medical cannabis program that may not be addressed in either as issues arise in collaboration with the Program Director. Draft final versions of Memorandums of Agreement, Memorandums of Understanding, Contracts, and Subgrant Agreements to include modification and renewals of each. Collaborate on investigation findings and final actions with the Program Director, Investigator, and Compliance Inspector (if applicable) involving a) cultivation, processing, transportation, and disposal entities/licensees, b) certified practitioners, c) etc. Review/ Respond to Records and Variance Requests. Present State cases in administrative appeals to include a) relevant statute and rules research, b) hearing prep with compliance officers, and c) drafting final orders for the State Health Officer. Attend local, state, and national gatherings/trainings to enhance professional and programmatic knowledge of the medical cannabis industry (in-person and virtual). Complete other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
What you'll need to be Successful: A successful attorney in a medical cannabis regulatory program needs strong skills in administrative and regulatory law, statutory interpretation, licensing, compliance, enforcement, policy development, and navigating the intersection of state cannabis laws with federal requirements. They should also be effective communicators and problem-solvers who can balance patient access, public health, public safety, industry needs, and stakeholder interests while translating complex regulations into practical policies and procedures.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
