Prototype Composites and Surfacing Specialist The Prototype Composites and Surfacing Specialist is responsible for supporting all prototyping and development activities related to pre-production parts, components, and vehicles. In addition to hands‑on fabrication and surfacing work, this role is expected to grow into a technical leadership position, guiding processes, mentoring team members, and supporting planning as the prototyping function scales. Responsibilities Make molds/tools from existing parts, designs, or from scratch where necessary Work with materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, and other composites Produce parts or components by prepreg, infusion, and wet layup Demold, trim, and finish fabricated parts Body work, surfacing, painting, and surface corrections as needed Perform cold bond and hot bond repairs Rework or fabricate items needed for early development Maintain inventory of raw materials and other requirements for new product prototypes Work with hazardous materials and use the appropriate PPE Review and interpret engineering designs and drawings Inspect and maintain tools and equipment Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education High School diploma or GED certificate Formal training in paint, body, or surfacing Experience Prior hands‑on experience fabricating and working on vehicles Minimum 5 years working with composite materials Moderate experience with metal working Read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD designs Prior experience leading, mentoring, or training others preferred Tools and Equipment Proficient with hand and power tools Proficient with composite fabrication techniques (prepreg, infusion, wet lay‑up) Proficient with surfacing, finishing, and paint‑related tools and equipment Proficient with metal‑working tools and processes Personal Passion for automotive design, engineering, and craftsmanship High attention to detail, quality, and finish Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced work environment Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift 50 lbs.
