REPORTS TO: Lead Welder

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

SUMMARY: Pipe Welder II is responsible for reading and interpreting shop drawings and travelers to layout and fabricate complex piping systems. They will be familiar with and proficient at welding in accordance with AWS, ASME and Customer specifications on stainless steel and alloy materials using internal shop drawings and/or customer prints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Able to read and understand basic blueprints for layout, fit up and weld.

• Complete understanding in the use of ATG’s work order/traveler documentation, material heat number tracing, weld maps, and Quality Management System.

• Must be able to certify to ASME Sect. IX and AWS qualifications

• Able to perform x-ray quality welds on products fabricated from stainless steel and specialty alloys using GTAW

• Must be able to occasionally work on items with limited access (e.g. pipe against a wall), in confined spaces and on a ladder or a scissor lift.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• HS Diploma, GED or equivalent.

• Minimum 5 years of related experience or technical training or equivalent

SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Capable of reading advanced blueprints and weld symbols.

• Responsible for both fit up and welding of complex stainless steel pipe spools

• Understanding of GD&T.

• Ability to produce and use fixturing necessary to complete weldments/assemblies.

• Capable of completing weldments with consideration of tolerances, shrinkage and warpage.

• Operate shop machinery (band saw, brake press, shear, drill press, plasma cutter, etc.)

• Advanced ability to layout hole patterns, penetrations, properly aligning flanges.

• Ability to safely operate forklifts and cranes.

• Ability to perform various assembly tasks.

• Ability to fit and weld a variety of pipe thicknesses and diameters (0.5”-12” ⌀)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
