Architectural Designer I (Classical Design)Overview

VCBO is looking for an Architectural Designer I to join our Provo office, with a primary focus on projects influenced by classical design principles and traditional architectural character. We’re looking for someone with a foundation in architectural design who’s ready to build on that experience through greater involvement in design, documentation, and project coordination.

You’ll work with experienced architects and designers from early design studies through project documentation. This role offers room to strengthen your technical abilities, develop your design judgment, and gain broader project experience, with a particular emphasis on classical architecture, proportion, precedent, and detailing.

This position is well suited to a designer who wants to keep developing through hands-on project work and guidance from experienced professionals. You’ll have the chance to deepen both your design and technical skills while working closely with others throughout the design process.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to architectural concepts, design studies, and design development with guidance from project leaders.
• Produce and refine drawings, models, presentations, and project documentation across multiple phases of work.
• Apply classical design principles and precedent to architectural composition, proportion, material expression, and detailing.
• Coordinate assigned project components with architects, designers, consultants, and other disciplines.
• Balance design intent with technical requirements, constructability, and project standards.
• Participate in project discussions and design reviews, incorporating feedback and taking increasing ownership of assigned work.

Qualifications

• Degree in architecture or a related field preferred.
• Previous professional or internship experience in architectural design is preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in classical architecture and traditional design principles.
• Working familiarity with architectural design and production tools and processes.
• Ability to communicate design ideas through drawings, models, graphics, and conversation.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
• Ability to work with direction while showing initiative and growing independence.
