Greenhouse Manager

DEPARTMENT: FACILITY SERVICES - GAINANSPOSITION TITLE: GREENHOUSE COORDINATORRESPONSIBLE TO: DIRECTOR OF FACILITY SERVICESEXPOSURE LEVEL: CATEGORY IIIEXEMPTION STATUS: EXEMPT________________________________________________________________________SUMMARY:The Greenhouse Coordinator is responsible for managing the Aeroponic Education Center (Center) and providing general maintenance for Gainan Commons. This is inclusive of cultivating meaningful opportunities to serve in the Center with volunteers from Billings Public Schools (BPS) and SJU resident/client volunteer pool.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION GREENHOUSE MANAGEMENT:• Work with BPS staff to create meaningful industry experience for students.• Creates and Coordinates meaningful engagement opportunities for volunteers for the Center and SJU property and grounds.• Manages all aspects of the Center.• Oversee inventory and transportation of plants and collaborate with SJU culinarians to provide produce from the Center that meets demand.• Collaborates with the Dir. of Volunteers to ensure coordination and compliance with volunteer procedures.• Is responsible for interviewing, scheduling and staffing volunteers.• Develops annual operating budget for the Center with the Dir. of Facilities.• Successfully determine and implement proper harvest of produce• Manage, maintain and repair of Center’s and Gainan’s equipment and computer controls• Collect and record growth, production, and environmental data• Schedule events, programs, and activities as it relates to the Center such as tours and community education/outreach about aeroponic gardening and greenhouse operations.• Ensure that operation is compliant with environmental regulations.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Safety• Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United.• Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards.• Routinely places safety-warning materials to notify others of the hazard area.• Practices good body mechanics at all times.• Attends mandatory safety in-services.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Mission/Customer Service• Gives the best of oneself• Sees volunteers, co-workers and students as customers.• Resolves dissatisfaction as soon as possible to minimize time of experience.• Provides positive feedback to students and volunteers daily.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Employee Responsibilities• Follows policy and procedures on TB testing.• Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.• Completes online education and attends mandatory in services.• Performs other duties as assignedREQUIREMENTS:Minimum Requirements:Experience with large production of produce in a greenhouse setting or relative experience. Evidence in positive inter-personal communication and supervision preferred. A valid Montana driver’s license with an acceptable driving history will be required. Must successfully pass a criminal background check.Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:• Ability to learn new techniques in gardening.• Ability to take corrective action, minimizing hazards and losses.• Skills to operate and maintain hand and power tools, machinery and equipment applicable to trade.• Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems• Knowledgeable about the stages of plant life and diseases that may occur• Ability to understand written and verbal communication.• Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures.• Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.• Ability to hear and accept feedback necessary to adapt to improve self.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:• Requires heavy physical work lifting heavy objects, up to 30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Requires the ability to push, pull, stretch, carry, walk, and bend for prolonged periods of time and repeatedly.
