About the Role The Patient Care Specialist facilitates excellent patient experience and supports clinic operations for the assigned prosthetics and/or orthotics medical practice. They greet and register patients, compile complete chart documentation, and support clinical and technical staff. Key Responsibilities Answer the telephone and either respond to inquiry, direct callers to appropriate personnel, or initiate a triage email for response by clinical personnel. Schedule appointments, verify and update patient demographics, referral source and insurance information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Obtain copies of insurance cards, drivers' licenses and other documentation from referral sources and scan relevant items into the EMR. Maintain complete patient records in the EMR per company policies. Initiate documentation requests from physicians and other healthcare providers and ensure information is included in the patient’s medical record prior to product delivery and claim submission. Verify patient insurance benefits, relay information on relevant payment and billing/collection policies, and collect patient responsibility payments. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and visitors. Follow infection control/safety procedures by adhering to applicable guidelines. Take patient height, weight and review relevant medical history with patient. Prepare treatment rooms and patient care areas. Provide administrative support to the practice as needed. Strive for a paperless work environment and full utilization of technology-based processes to drive operational efficiencies. Assist in marketing efforts to build relationships with local referral sources. Maintain professional relationships with patients, referral sources, clinical and non-clinical employees. Maintain product and administrative technical knowledge by actively participating in ongoing training and development courses. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Environment This role operates in a professional office environment that routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demand The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach/pull with hands and arms, bend and squat. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. 1–2 years of medical office experience preferred, using EMR systems or equivalent skills.
