Job Title: General Laborer – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This role supports the production of wood trusses in a high-volume lumber yard environment on the second shift. You work as part of a small team to assemble trusses using pre-cut lumber, hand tools, and power tools, ensuring each unit meets quality and safety standards. The position involves physical, hands-on work, material handling, and consistent use of measuring tools to maintain accuracy in assembly.

Responsibilities

• Work in teams of three to four people to assemble wood trusses according to production requirements.
• Use pre-cut lumber delivered from the saw room and organize it at the designated work area.
• Load pre-cut wood into the laser-guided system that projects the truss outline onto the assembly rack.
• Select the correct length and cut of wood to match the laser outline and truss design specifications.
• Align and join two pieces of wood and secure them together with metal plates using a hammer, typically requiring one to two swings per truss.
• Operate or assist with a large industrial roller that runs over completed trusses to ensure plates are fully embedded and connections are secure.
• Turn completed trusses over, apply additional plates as needed, and run them through the roller again to confirm structural integrity.
• Move and stage finished trusses and materials to designated areas to maintain an organized workflow.
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and correctly throughout the assembly process.
• Read and interpret measurements using a tape measure or ruler to ensure accuracy in cuts and assembly.
• Handle general production, assembly, packaging, and loading tasks as needed to support overall operations.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area by following safety guidelines and reporting any hazards or equipment issues.
• Support general labor tasks in a lumber yard environment, including lifting, carrying, and positioning materials up to 50 pounds.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience using hand tools, including hammers and saws.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure or ruler.
• Comfort performing general labor and manual labor tasks in a production or construction-related environment.
• Basic familiarity with construction, carpentry, or framing concepts sufficient to follow truss assembly instructions.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in a fast-paced setting.
• Willingness and ability to work second shift hours and overtime as needed, including Saturdays.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in construction, carpentry, framing, or similar trades.
• Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Experience in building, assembly, or general production work.
• Exposure to using power tools in a safe and controlled manner.
• Experience with tasks such as loading, picking, packaging, and general production support.
• Comfort working in a lumber yard or similar industrial environment.

Work Environment

This is a second shift position running Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with overtime available as needed, including Saturdays. Saturday shifts are typically six hours and currently part of the regular schedule. Work takes place in a lumber-style yard with both indoor and outdoor conditions, requiring comfort working in a mix of warehouse and yard environments. You regularly use hand tools, power tools, industrial rollers, and laser-guided systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Toledo, OH.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Toledo,OH.
