Associate Underwriter (Commercial Transportation - Commercial Truck)

In this Associate Underwriter role, you will analyze and grow your skills in evaluating business risk from an insurance standpoint as part of our Underwriting Trainee Program. The Commercial Transportation (Commercial Truck) Business Unit at IAT Insurance Group has openings for Associate Underwriters in Naperville, Illinois, starting June 1, 2026. This is an entry‑level opportunity and also suitable for candidates with several years of industry experience who wish to continue learning and growing in insurance. IAT operates a hybrid schedule: in‑office Monday through Wednesday and remote Thursday and Friday. Responsibilities Evaluate information to determine risk acceptability, price, and document decisions in accordance with company guidelines and standards. Make appropriate decisions based on evaluation of information. Effectively communicate and negotiate underwriting and pricing decisions to achieve optimal outcomes and ensure understanding of company direction. Document decisions in accordance with business unit best practices and regulatory standards. Build effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel as well as internal company staff. Act with a sense of urgency on all inquiries/requests. Provide unmatched customer service. Drive new business opportunities to assigned agents. Manage a small territory with mentor oversight. Assist with various reporting and project needs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications A four‑year college degree or equivalent applicable experience (May 2026 graduates will be considered). Equivalent is defined as 4 years of applicable insurance industry experience. A dynamic personality, self‑starter, and strong communicator. Desire to build relationships and eagerness to learn. Willingness and ability to travel. Excellent oral and written communication skills, leadership, professionalism, organization, and time management. Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by employer, now or in the future. Actual salaries vary by location. Total compensation includes base salary, performance‑based bonus opportunities, 401(k) match, profit‑sharing, and more.
