Position Overview
Energy Northwest is seeking a Nuclear Project Manager to support capital projects, refueling outages, forced outages, and online maintenance activities at Columbia Generating Station.
This position is posted at three levels (I, II, III), but only one opening will be filled. Candidates should be submitted at the level that best aligns with their qualifications and commercial nuclear project experience.
The selected individual will manage projects involving planning, scheduling, budgeting, implementation oversight, work execution, vendor coordination, risk management, outage support, and project controls within a commercial nuclear environment.
This role requires strong leadership, technical project management expertise, and prior experience supporting commercial nuclear power plant operations, outage execution, maintenance, or construction activities.
What You'll Do
- Lead project planning, scheduling, execution, monitoring, and closeout activities
- Manage outage-related and online maintenance projects within scope, budget, and schedule requirements
- Coordinate project teams, engineering groups, vendors, craft labor, and stakeholders
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, resource loading plans, and implementation strategies
- Support work package preparation, procurement activities, ALARA planning, and industrial/nuclear safety requirements
- Monitor project risks, schedule impacts, and execution challenges while implementing mitigation strategies
- Interface regularly with operations, maintenance, engineering, project controls, and senior leadership
- Support corrective action programs and self-assessment initiatives
- Prepare and deliver written and verbal project updates to leadership and stakeholders
- Support outage coordination activities including OCC support
Level Breakdown
Level I – Project Manager I – Nuclear Projects
Pay: $41.00–$70.00/hr
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or related field preferred
- Project Management certification required
Minimum:
- 14+ years of technical/industrial experience with Bachelor's degree
OR 16+ years with Associate's degree
OR 18+ years with High School Diploma/GED
- Experience managing small to medium-sized projects with limited oversight
- Experience supporting refueling outages, forced outages, online maintenance, or capital projects
- Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, procurement, work packages, and project execution activities
- Familiarity with ALARA planning, industrial safety, and nuclear safety requirements
Level II – Project Manager II – Nuclear Projects
Pay: $71.00–$90.00/hr
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or related field preferred
- Current PMP certification REQUIRED
Minimum:
- 12+ years of project management experience with advanced degree
OR 14+ years with Bachelor's degree
OR 16+ years with Associate's degree
OR 18+ years with High School Diploma/GED
- At least 5 years of direct commercial nuclear project management experience
- Experience leading complex multidisciplinary projects within highly regulated industrial environments
Strong understanding of:
- Nuclear work management processes
- Risk management
- Critical path scheduling
- Cost tracking and budget controls
- Technical specifications and code compliance
- Advanced project scheduling and planning experience
Level III – Project Manager III – Nuclear Projects
Pay: $91.00–$102.00/hr
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- PMP or equivalent Project Management certification REQUIRED
- 8+ years of project scheduling/project controls experience with at least 4 years supporting large-scale or mega projects
- Extensive commercial nuclear project experience required
Advanced expertise with:
- Primavera P6
- Earned Value Management (EVM)
- Risk management
- EPC and lifecycle construction projects
- Nuclear outage execution strategies
- Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams and overseeing highly complex projects
Strong technical understanding of:
- ASME Section XI repair/replacement activities
- Work packages and outage execution plans
- Clearance orders and testing strategies
- Welding, rigging, and material handling activities
- Radiological work planning and ALARA principles
Ideal Experience
- Large-scale nuclear capital projects
- Technical oversight and execution strategy development
- Readiness reviews, implementation briefings, and risk management meetings
- Vendor oversight and field execution leadership
- Experience mentoring project managers and leading cross-functional teams
Required / Desired Skills (All Levels)
- Commercial nuclear power plant experience required
- Experience supporting outage execution, online maintenance, capital projects, or forced outage activities
- Strong understanding of nuclear safety culture and work management processes
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and organizational levels
- Experience with project budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination
- Primavera P6 experience strongly preferred for senior-level candidates
- Advanced computer skills
Work Environment
- Onsite in Richland, WA
- 4-day work week (10-hour days)
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Green Badge Level 2 required
- No on-call requirement
