Philanthropic Specialist

ABOUT THE COMPANY A single-family office that provides a diverse array of services, including investment and estate planning, tax, accounting, fiduciary, and philanthropic services to a multi-generational family with a controlling stake in a publicly traded corporation. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING The Philanthropic Specialist will be a core member of the Philanthropy team, partnering closely with family members and senior philanthropy leaders to understand philanthropic goals, develop thoughtful strategies, and help turn those goals into meaningful action and impact. The Specialist will gain broad exposure to strategic philanthropy, family engagement, governance, grantmaking, and client service while taking increasing ownership of work and building expertise across the function. This position will report to the Director of Philanthropy. Planning, Family Relations & Engagement Create, maintain, and manage individual giving strategic plans Support grant committee, signature program, and/or other Foundation programs, as needed Contribute to Foundation meetings with a focus on bringing strategic solutions, as needed Coordinate with Director of Philanthropy and Senior Relationship Manager on presentation to family members Support strategic initiatives of the Philanthropy Team Contribute to, manage, and execute on philanthropic experience for family members Strategize, create, manage, and execute philanthropic events, in collaboration with staff Create, assist, execute, or identify opportunities to enhance family education Coordinate and collaborate with relationship managers, tax team and wealth management team Participate in philanthropic activities, meetings, site visits, and other family experiences, including occasional travel to meet with family members and clients as needed Marketing and Communications Create, prepare, and update client materials, annual reports, individual giving reports, and other client facing materials, as needed Work with and support the External Relations Director on internal and external marketing and communications strategies Support in messaging, website updates, and collateral materials, as needed Partner directly with family members and clients to facilitate philanthropic goal discovery, clarify priorities and values, and identify strategies and opportunities to translate those goals into meaningful action and impact Serve as a thoughtful resource to clients, bringing research, ideas, and philanthropic expertise to help them evaluate opportunities and make informed decisions. Governance Consult with management on complex gifts Assist with data collection and organization for tax filings Develop mastery of grant management system as super-user Approve assigned grants Coordinate with Director of Philanthropy Operations Inputs entries into Grant Management System IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree required Other applicable credentials such as CAP, 21/64, or CTFA preferred. A minimum of 3 years experience in a philanthropy role, or in a role demonstrating support of foundations or tax-exempt entities Must have experience with a Grant Management System Demonstrated progressive level of skills and responsibility, preferably in a ultra-high net worth or grant making context Strong background and experience in client communication, follow up, and management through philanthropic experiences, workshops, and meetings Demonstrated talent for managing a large portfolio of relationships in a timely manner Experience with complex grant making strategies Experience in client service with ultra-high net worth families KEY PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to learn, with the ability to ask thoughtful questions, seek out information, and quickly develop expertise in new areas Growth mindset and willingness to take on new responsibilities, build expertise across multiple areas of philanthropy, and learn from colleagues and clients Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse, challenging, and creative personalities Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and multitask Superior written and oral communication skills Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Exceptional judgment, integrity, and discretion, with the ability to handle highly confidential information and sensitive family matters with professionalism and care.
