Since 2016, our high-protein, drinkable oatmeal has reached over a million customers through direct-to-consumer, and we're now scaling with all major nationwide retail and club partners. Our goal: become a household brand by leveraging speed, storytelling, and strategy.

We are vertically integrated: we develop, manufacture, and fulfill everything in-house. This operational control allows us to engage customers directly into the R&D process, an initiative where we were first-to-market in CPG. What's The Job

Data is becoming a core part of how Oats Overnight operates. Our Data team builds the infrastructure, models, analytics, and AI-powered tools that help teams across the company make better and faster decisions.

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to become our first dedicated Data Engineering hire and second member of the Data team. You'll report directly to the Director of Analytics, and together you'll build and evolve the data platform that powers analytics, AI, internal tooling, and operational workflows across Oats Overnight. You'll work closely together to set the technical direction for Data, prioritize the highest-impact opportunities, and build the foundation for how the company uses data as we scale.

This is a broad, high-ownership role. Your primary responsibility is Data Engineering: building pipelines, designing reliable data models, improving our data platform, and making high-quality data available throughout the organization. But we're intentionally a lean team, so you'll also work directly with Engineering and occasionally flex into analytics, BI, data science, and automation when those are the highest-impact problems to solve.

We're looking for a technical builder who enjoys working across the stack, thrives in ambiguity, and wants significant ownership over how a growing company uses data.

What You'll Be Doing, Stop Scanning and Read This Part

Build & Own Our Data Platform

• Own our data pipelines end to end. Design, build, and operate reliable pipelines across internal systems, APIs, applications, and third-party platforms, including our Airflow and dbt infrastructure.
• Build integrations and trusted data models. Develop durable integrations and create clean, scalable, well-documented source-of-truth datasets for analytics, operational workflows, and downstream applications.
• Improve reliability and quality. Establish testing, monitoring, observability, and alerting that make our data platform dependable as the company scales.

Build for AI & Partner with Engineering

• Build the data foundation for AI. Make well-defined, trustworthy data available to our internal AI analytics agents and other AI-powered workflows.
• Partner closely with Engineering. Support application data, integrations, APIs, event instrumentation, and other data infrastructure needs across our software and operational systems.
• Build beyond the warehouse. Develop lightweight APIs, services, automations, and internal tools when the right solution extends beyond a traditional data pipeline, using AI coding tools to accelerate development.

Establish How We Do Data Engineering

• Set Data Engineering standards. Establish best practices across architecture, modeling, testing, CI/CD, code review, documentation, governance, and reliability.
• Continuously improve our platform. Simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, eliminate manual processes, and improve developer velocity.
• Build pragmatically for scale. Make technical and architectural decisions that balance what the business needs today with where our data platform needs to go.

Solve Problems Across the Business

• Partner directly with the business. Work with teams across Oats Overnight to understand their problems and translate them into scalable technical and data solutions.
• Flex beyond Data Engineering when needed. Build a Looker/Hex model, investigate a business question, prototype a forecasting model, automate an operational process, or tackle another high-impact problem when needed.
• Own the outcome. Stay close to how your work is actually used - we care about whether the solution solves the problem, not just whether the pipeline ran successfully.
• Other duties as assigned

What You've Done and Who You Are

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Software Engineering with a data focus, or a related technical role. We're also open to strong Analytics Engineers looking to grow further into Data Engineering and infrastructure ownership.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience writing production-quality code and building ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience with modern data tooling, including Airflow and/or dbt, and a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Experience building data pipelines and integrations across APIs, databases, and third-party systems.
• Strong understanding of data modeling and warehouse design, including building reliable, reusable source-of-truth datasets.
• Experience using coding agents and AI-assisted development tools as part of your engineering workflow.
• Someone that can partner and influence at all different levels
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and navigate in a fast moving environment
• A relentless drive to get things done.
• Flexible, willing, and quick to learn new processes, new technology, and new ways of thinking.

Nice to Have

• Experience as an early data hire or building significant parts of a data platform from the ground up.
• Deep production experience with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Looker, and/or Hex.
• Experience building AI/LLM data infrastructure, internal APIs, backend services, or internal tools.
• Experience with business analytics, with a track record of translating data, models, and technical insights into actionable business decisions.
• Experience working with data across subscription e-commerce, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, finance, or operations.
