CAT Compact Technician Department: Machine Division (MAC) Employment Type: Full Time Location: North Dallas Description The Cat Compact Technician performs Cat Compact maintenance and repairs complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment. Essential Functions Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission Troubleshoots and diagnoses Cat Compact equipment malfunctions and failures Disassembles and assembles Cat Compact machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains Cat Compact equipment and components Maintains good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management Plans and controls cost of repair jobs Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return Maintains company equipment – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition Adapts schedule to accommodate workload fluctuations and meet customer demands Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths Requires regular and punctual employee attendance Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of dirt engaging equipment, aerial, and lifting equipment Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences Should be able to utilize a multi-meter and various OEM scan tools to perform basic troubleshooting and diagnostics Should have a basic knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines and how they operate Should have a basic knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems The ability to read and comprehend electrical and hydraulic system schematics Requirements Education and Experience High school/equivalent diploma or trade school diploma preferred One year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required; Three or more years preferred Valid driver’s license Supervisory Responsibilities None Travel Occasional travel to customer site Physical Requirements Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb up and down ladders Be able to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work Work Environment Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity Noise level may be loud at times Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment Significant time spent in confined spaces and high places Disclaimer Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
