Maintenance Worker

As a maintenance worker, you play a vital role in keeping the facilities and grounds safe, functional, and compliant with health standards. You demonstrate strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, enabling you to repair equipment, maintain systems such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, perform routine inspections, and respond effectively to urgent issues. Through proper techniques and coordinated efforts, you help ensure the efficient use of the facilities and contribute to the best possible environment for patient care.

Facility Maintenance and Repairs

  • Perform general repairs on building structures, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Maintain walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, and windows.
  • Repair or replace broken equipment and components.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections of equipment and systems.
  • Perform routine service to prevent breakdowns.
  • Work closely with staff to address maintenance needs.

Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC Systems

  • Inspect and maintain lighting systems and electrical panels. Replace bulbs, ballast, switches, and outlets as needed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting minor electrical issues.
  • Repair leaks, unclog drains, and maintain piping systems. Service toilets, sinks, and water fixtures.
  • Maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Change filters and perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Monitor temperature control systems for patient comfort and safety.

Grounds Maintenance

  • Maintain exterior areas, including walkways, parking lots, and landscaping.
  • Remove snow, ice, and debris to ensure safe access for patients, guests, and staff.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow hospital safety policies and regulatory standards ensuring compliance with health, safety, and infection control protocols.
  • Inspect fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency systems.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and stored in proper place.
  • Assist with purchasing necessary supplies.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must read, speak and understand English.
  • Knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems and familiarity with safety codes preferred.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Proficient in repairing and maintaining electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
  • Skilled with hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and basic machinery.
  • Capable of navigating ladders, scaffolding, and elevated areas safely.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols, codes, and OSHA regulations.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills with ability to maintain accurate logs of maintenance work and equipment service.
  • Exceptional time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks between routine maintenance and urgent needs.

Position Details

Schedule: This is a full-time, non-exempt position with the expectation of working 36-40 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Rotating on call and holiday schedules.

Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-50 pounds with occasional lifting/carrying 51-75 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, exposure to equipment and machinery, exposure to dust and fumes.

Equipment: Fully equipped shop including assorted sizes of pipe and crescent wrenches, socket sets, etc. Safety goggles, tool punch consisting of screw drivers and assorted hand tools, electric drills, electric saws, electric sanders, drill press. Electrical repair and equipment testers.
