Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for CHCM/CSU roles, including but not limited to shift differential and other special pay practices, etc. The posted compensation for the position is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay at CHCM/CSU in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Manages and coordinates the activities of nursing personnel for a given shift with responsibility for outcome throughout the facility. Performs a variety of functions for assigned shift including the interpretation of department policy and procedures for nursing staff; participates in the identification and investigation of problems, preparation of reports, and implementation of the improvement of nursing care; provides for staff training, evaluates personnel performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have current, valid State of California R.N. License, current CPR and ACLS. Bachelor’s degree preferred, must have two years of progressive proven clinical experience in a Health Care setting. Must be thoroughly familiar with the development stages of Adolescent/Adults and the aging process of elderly adults. Management experience preferred, not necessarily limited to nursing. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent sitting for long periods of time. Frequent walking, standing, bending and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Occasional pulling and pushing up to 50 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Finger dexterity. Frequent exposure to stressful situations. Frequent public and patient contact.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent exposure to noise, cold and heat. Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, general cleaning chemicals.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Demonstrates an understanding of their personal role in the case of fire/disaster and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
 Functions with an awareness of patient safety issues and applies basic principles of safety as identified within the facility.
 Follows the occurrence reporting policy and procedure in reporting any potential safety issues.

 Demonstrates effective leadership skills of delegation, organization, and coordination of managing assigned service; delegates responsibilities to designate staff as appropriate.
 Functions as a role model for Nursing staff.

 Develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff, management, and other members of the health team.
 Participates in completion of performance evaluations, disciplinary action and supervisory follow-up.
 Provides pertinent communication to Nursing Administration regarding levels of staff performance. Effectively prioritizes communication issues pertaining to all departments and provides collaborative intervention as necessary.
 Collaborates with Nurse Managers to maintain adequate levels of staff to deliver safe, effective and appropriate care an remain within the budgetary guidelines.
 Exercises good judgment and discretion in deviating from policy in circumstances where strict adherence would pose a risk to patient, visitor, staff or facility.
 Functions as a role model in clinical specialty, demonstrating competency in clinical judgment, selected technical skills and appropriate knowledge base.
 Provides clinical direction to staff and evaluates the level of care provided by the nursing staff on assigned shift.
 Holds staff accountable for awareness and sensitivity to the rights of patients and for upholding those rights as identified within the facility and by the California Department of Mental Health.
 Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to safety and legal requirements established at the Hospital and Department of Nursing level with emphasis on those pertinent to his/her shift.
 Holds staff accountable for functioning in a reduced risk manner.
 As the coordinator of care, the registered nurse shall be responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts and mobilization, and shall participate as needed in patient handling in accordance with the nurse’s job description and professional judgment.
 Effectively performs other duties as assigned.
