Social Media Intern

The Quad City Steamwheelers are seeking a creative, motivated, and dependable Social Media Intern to assist with the team's digital content and social media efforts throughout the 2027 season. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience working within a professional sports organization. The Social Media Intern will assist with creating and publishing content across Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and other digital platforms while helping tell the story of the Steamwheelers throughout the season. The ideal candidate is creative, understands social media trends, has strong communication skills, and is comfortable capturing content in a fast-paced sports environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and execution of the team's social media content calendar.
• Create, edit, proofread, and publish content across the Steamwheelers' social media platforms.
• Capture photo and video content at practices, games, community appearances, and special events.
• Provide real-time social media coverage during all Steamwheelers home games.
• Develop creative content featuring players, coaches, fans, sponsors, and behind-the-scenes team activities.
• Work with the digital team to develop weekly and seasonal content strategies designed to increase engagement and brand awareness.
• Monitor social media trends and identify creative opportunities for the Steamwheelers to incorporate into their content.
• Assist with short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram Reels and TikTok.
• Assist with writing and editing content for SteamwheelersFootball.com and other team communications.
• Participate in team meetings, contribute creative ideas, and effectively apply feedback.
• Assist with additional marketing, digital media, and game-day responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, sports management, digital media, or a related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of major social media platforms and current digital trends.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative, organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience operating a camera and capturing quality photo/video content.
• Basic video editing experience preferred.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and/or Illustrator, is a plus.
• Previous social media, sports, photography, videography, or content creation experience is preferred but not required.
• Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and all Steamwheelers home game days.

This internship provides an opportunity to build a professional portfolio while gaining hands-on experience in social media, content creation, sports marketing, game-day coverage, and professional sports operations. Interns will have the opportunity to create content in a live professional sports environment and contribute ideas that directly impact the Steamwheelers' digital presence throughout the season.
