Role Description The mid‑level Staff Ecologist/Planner/Environmental Scientist will support the west coast Enviro Socio Permitting team. The candidate will develop desktop reviews, lead field data collection for wetland and waterbody delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments, and prepare reports to document field data. They will also support regulatory agency coordination, permit development, and compliance for linear infrastructure and renewable energy projects in the Intermountain West. The role requires collaboration with a team of resource specialists, balancing multiple priorities, and meeting deliverable deadlines. The position is mainly office based with required field assessments, travel up to 25%, use of GPS, and ability to carry supplies up to 30 pounds. Role Accountabilities Manage desktop environmental assessments using current technologies and methods to identify permitting requirements and support development of permitting strategy. Develop technical reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents to support permitting, including regulatory permit application packages for Army Corps, CEQA, NEPA, etc. Provide task management support to assist with growth of client relationships through delivery of quality work and data. Support or lead agency consultations for threatened and endangered species and develop permitting and survey strategies. Maintain electronic file systems and record keeping using SharePoint and other cloud‑based platforms. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental or land use planning or a related natural resource field. Four years of experience in the environmental field. Regional experience in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, and/or Washington. Experience evaluating compliance with state and federal laws and environmental regulatory processes (e.g., PUC, PSC, FERC, BLM, USFS, USFWS, USACE, CEQA, NEPA). Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports and permit applications, particularly for linear projects. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree and/or three to five years of environmental consulting experience. Experience leading field teams for wetland determination/delineation surveys, flora/fauna surveys, habitat assessments, and associated reporting.
