Job Description

As the Sr. Logistics Category Manager you will own the sourcing strategy for Fortune Brands' transportation and logistics spend, a portfolio exceeding $300M annually across truckload, LTL, parcel, intermodal, and international modes. You will work closely with global business and functional leaders across all of Fortune Brands to develop and implement sourcing strategies that reduce total cost of ownership, strengthen network resilience, and improve service performance, leveraging world-class negotiation skills, tools, and processes. This is a senior individual contributor role with visibility to senior executive leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze logistics spend, shipment profiles, supplier utilization, freight lanes, service requirements, and other cost drivers to identify sourcing and optimization opportunities.
• Translate category and market intelligence into recommendations for senior leadership and business stakeholders.
• Build and maintain a multi-year sourcing pipeline aligned with business priorities, contract expiration dates, operational needs, and market conditions.
• Monitor transportation markets, capacity trends, fuel costs, carrier economics, regulatory developments, and emerging logistics capabilities.

Strategic Sourcing and Negotiation

• Lead end-to-end logistics sourcing initiatives, including project scoping, data collection, baseline development, market analysis, supplier identification, RFI/RFQ/RFP execution, bid analysis, negotiations, supplier selection, and implementation.
• Conduct competitive bid evaluations and scenario analyses to identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, mode conversion, lane optimization, and cost reduction.
• Develop sourcing strategies that consider total landed cost, service performance, network fit, capacity, risk, sustainability, technology, and operational requirements.
• Create and manage pricing templates that capture relevant logistics cost components, including base transportation rates, fuel surcharges, accessorial charges, minimum charges, storage, detention, demurrage, and other applicable fees.
• Partner with Legal, Risk Management, Finance, Logistics, and Operations to negotiate supplier agreements, statements of work, rate schedules, service-level agreements, and performance requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with business and functional leaders to understand logistics strategies, network requirements, service expectations, volume forecasts, and operational priorities.
• Balance enterprise-wide sourcing opportunities with the specific operational needs of individual businesses, locations, and distribution networks.
• Communicate category strategies, sourcing recommendations, market developments, financial impacts, and supplier risks to senior leadership.
• Lead change management activities necessary to support supplier transitions and adoption of negotiated agreements.

Supplier and Contract Management

• Monitor contract expiration dates, pricing adjustment provisions, volume commitments, service-level requirements, and renewal opportunities.
• Develop and maintain supplier scorecards using relevant measures
• Track supplier corrective actions and escalate recurring service, cost, capacity, or compliance concerns.
• Identify supplier concentration, capacity, geopolitical, financial, regulatory, and business continuity risks within the logistics supply base.

Financial and Operational Value Delivery

• Deliver measurable savings, cost avoidance, working capital improvements, risk reduction, and process efficiencies.
• Support transportation network optimization, supplier rationalization, and logistics process improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve payment terms, reduce accessorial expenses, standardize fuel surcharge programs, and simplify logistics pricing structures.

Governance and Compliance

• Partner with internal stakeholders to establish clear specifications, scopes of work, service expectations, and supplier responsibilities.
• Support Procurement governance requirements and promote consistent sourcing practices across brands, business units, and locations.

Qualifications

• 8-12 years of progressive experience in transportation/logistics sourcing or logistics operations, with demonstrated multi-mode expertise (truckload, LTL, parcel, intermodal; international experience a plus).
• Direct experience owning transportation spend at scale ($100M+ preferred), driving savings and leading strategic sourcing initiatives in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of logistics pricing structures, cost drivers, fuel surcharge programs, accessorial charges, and carrier or 3PL operating models.
• Experience leading end-to-end strategic sourcing initiatives, including spend analysis, market research, RFx development, proposal evaluation, negotiation, contracting, award recommendation, and implementation.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives across Procurement, Logistics, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Supply Chain.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple sourcing projects, competing priorities, and implementation timelines.
• Ability to travel domestically as business needs require (up to 25%)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Business, Finance, Operations, or a related discipline.
• Experience working within a complex, multi-business, multi-location, or global organization.
• Professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, CTL, or an equivalent procurement or supply chain credential.

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $81,000 USD - $124,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
