Depending on your experience and leadership capabilities, the position may involve senior-level responsibilities or tax supervision, including technical review, engagement oversight, and staff development. The role combines technical tax research, client communication, compliance, and team collaboration in a fully remote environment. You will work with complex partnership, real estate, nonprofit, and affordable housing tax matters while helping junior and offshore team members develop their capabilities. This is a strong fit for a motivated tax professional who values autonomy, technical growth, and high-quality client service.
Accountabilities
- Dedicate approximately 7080% of your time to Section 42 LIHTC compliance projects while supporting traditional tax engagements as business needs require, particularly during peak tax season.
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax documents and returns while applying a strong understanding of partnership taxation and relevant tax requirements.
- For supervisory-level responsibilities, review federal, state, and local tax documents prepared by junior staff and offshore preparers, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
- Research new and complex tax matters involving affordable housing, LIHTC, partnership taxation, real estate, nonprofit organizations, and related areas, and prepare supporting memoranda documenting conclusions.
- Apply practical knowledge of LIHTC projects, including credit calculations, first-year credit projects, project reviews, and related compliance requirements.
- Work directly with client personnel regarding engagement status, deadlines, information requests, tax compliance matters, and other project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with LP investors, GPs, nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders involved in LIHTC and related tax engagements.
- Prepare and support tax work for large nonprofit developer clients, including Form 990 filings and related requirements.
- Guide, train, and develop junior staff and offshore preparers, with supervisors also supporting annual tax training and technical development.
- Manage multiple engagements, deadlines, and competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, organization, and client service.
- Stay current with tax developments and professional standards through continuing education, professional publications, networking, and participation in relevant professional organizations.
- Depending on experience and placement, take on additional engagement oversight, technical review, staff development, and team leadership responsibilities.
Requirements:
- You have at least 3 years of tax experience in public accounting, with demonstrated experience handling complex tax compliance and advisory matters.
- You have experience with Section 42 LIHTC compliance and understand the practical intricacies of LIHTC projects, including credit calculations, first-year credit projects, and project reviews.
- Experience with both LIHTC and traditional tax work is highly desirable, particularly experience involving high-net-worth individuals, trusts, corporations, and similar entities.
- You have experience working with partnership taxation and, ideally, with real estate and nonprofit tax matters, including large nonprofit developer Form 990 returns.
- You are comfortable communicating with LP investors, GPs, and client personnel regarding technical tax matters, project status, deadlines, and information requirements.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is required, while a current CPA license is preferred but not mandatory.
- A Master's degree in Taxation is highly advantageous.
- You have a solid understanding of fundamental accounting and tax principles and can independently research and resolve complex tax questions.
- You are a self-starter who can work effectively in a fully remote environment while maintaining strong accountability and productivity.
- You have excellent organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple engagements and time constraints successfully.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and comfortable working with detailed financial and tax information.
- You have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and can explain technical matters clearly to clients and colleagues.
- You are highly motivated, collaborative, and interested in developing your technical expertise and leadership capabilities.
- For supervisory-level placement, you should demonstrate the ability to review technical work, oversee engagements, develop staff, and provide effective team leadership.
Benefits:
- Salary range of approximately $95,000$120,000 for the San Francisco Bay Area, with compensation adjusted according to the cost of living and market rates in the candidate's area of residence.
- 100% remote working model with flexible work arrangements.

- Employee Assistance Program.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including PPO and HMO options, with premiums fully paid for employees.
