Occupational Therapist

Successful candidates will be employed by the ESCCO or willing to become employed by the ESCCO.

Teaching contract, per negotiated agreement

Responsible to Director of Special Education

Valid State of Ohio Occupational Therapist License

Provide appropriate occupational therapy assessment and plan treatment based on student needs for program development, student placement, and accessibility with consideration of architectural barriers.

Screen and/or assess student's fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills, and sensory needs in relationship to functional abilities for the purpose of determining the need for school based occupational therapy and developing recommendations for treatment and appropriate assistive devices and/or curriculum access.

Develop treatment plans and interventions related to the IEP for the purpose of remediating student skill deficits and/or optimizing student access to the school environment.

Provide direct and indirect services to develop student daily living skills in school related activities/functions. This includes using data/progress to make adjustments to interventions, and providing and interpreting medical information for the purpose of ensuring treatment plans are appropriate.

Prepare written materials (such as initial evaluations, annual assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, daily notes, correspondence, and memos) and maintain files/records to comply with state, federal, administrative, and professional regulations.

Participate in a variety of meetings (i.e. ETR, IEP, team meetings, professional workshops/training) to convey and/or gather information.

Collaborate and consult with a variety of groups/individuals (i.e. parents, teachers, instructional aides, related service team members, administrators, maintenance and transportation personnel, outside medical personnel and professionals). The purpose of this is to communicate information, develop plans for services, make recommendations, resolve issues, and/or coordinate occupational therapy services with those of other disciplines.

Identify structural issues to remove barriers or identify appropriate technology and assistive equipment for students with physical limitations. Instruct student and staff on use of assistive devices and/or implementing plans for functional limitations.

Depending on assignment, may transport supplies and equipment to a variety of sites to ensure the availability of therapeutic items.

Depending on assignment, may provide services at multiple worksites to complete evaluations and deliver therapy interventions and assistance as required. This may include non-district sites such as homebound, student worksites, medical providers, and private educational facilities.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee. All staff shall serve as role models for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. All staff are expected to comply fully with the Ohio Department of Education Code of Conduct for educators. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse or prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
