Description: Med-Surg Unit with 23 beds. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. Common diagnoses include surgical patients such as orthopedic, general, spinal, and gender reassignment. Critical patients are sent to a larger facility. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Tele/monitor technicians are available on the unit. RNs are responsible for reading their own strips. Charge nurses do not take assignments. Nurse aides are present on the unit with a ratio of 1:12. Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP and CPAP. Shifts are 12 hours, three days per week. Weekend and holiday work may be required occasionally. There are no on-call or standby requirements. Floating to other units is not required. RNs wear black scrubs; nursing assistants wear grey. Unit-specific orientation is provided. Charting system used is MEDITECH.
