This position accurately applies ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. It includes skills required in performing a variety of technical procedures. The goal is to achieve the highest quality diagnostic radiograph. The least amount of radiation exposure to the patient is prioritized. Responsibilities include performing radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures. This involves the accurate application of ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. The technologist will position patients and equipment appropriately. Extensive anatomic positioning skills are required to accurately demonstrate the area being examined. Providing appropriate radiation protection for patients and staff during exposure is essential. This must be done according to prescribed safety standards. Technical factors must be adjusted to provide appropriate exposure. This requires independent judgment, knowledge of human anatomy, and understanding the effects of disease on the radiograph. Furthermore, familiarity with the principles of radiation and the operation of all radiologic equipment within the department is necessary.
