Wentworth Health Partners (WHP), an affiliate of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and member of Mass General Brigham Medical Group, offers a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures in our Plastic Surgery Specialty practice located in our state-of-the-art building at 10 Members Way in Dover, NH. Our team specializes in advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments helping patients achieve their desired look and renewed confidence. They deliver high-quality, personalized care in a supportive and professional environment. We're seeking a per-diem Medical Assistant to join our Plastic Surgery team picking up shifts during the practice's operating hours Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. This MA will help fill staffing gaps caused by call-outs, vacations, leaves, and vacancies, so based on the practice needs, there are flexible options for full or partial shift coverage. This is a unique opportunity to work independently at the top of your certification while contributing to a highly collaborative care team! Our practice is a small office where teamwork is essential. While this position includes traditional Medical Assistant responsibilities, a key component of the role involves managing a substantial volume of prior authorizations for procedures. Experience and comfort in handling authorizations is important for success in this position.

We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned practices and locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances for cross-coverage purposes and to ensure adequate coverage and support.

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions

• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
• Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
• Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
• Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
• Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred

Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred

Experience
Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required

Additional Job Details (if applicable)

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 1 year of professional Medical Assistant experience. There is a strong preference for the national MA certification through AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT, experience working in Epic, and a background in an ambulatory or outpatient care setting.
