Confidential Advocacy Program Position

The Confidential Advocacy Program provides confidential support services to OHSU students who have experienced any form of sexual misconduct, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate-partner violence, stalking, relationship/dating violence, and other forms whether at OHSU or outside of the university. We also support OHSU students around experiences of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation related to their OHSU education or employment. CAP advocates can connect you with community and campus resources, as well as provide emotional support, help with safety planning, and navigating reporting systems. CAP also provides education and training in the form of webinars, self-care tools such as trauma-informed yoga and art therapy, and community for survivors.

Function/Duties of Position

• Assist with providing advocacy services either remote or in-person at the CAP Office, located on Marquam Hill in BICC 204, for some hours each week.
• Assist in outreach and education efforts as needed, online or across the OHSU campus
• Engage in data collection, analysis, and evaluation to identify areas for advocacy and systems improvement at OHSU as it related to violence within Title IX and OHSU's DHR Policy
• Support with other CAP-related tasks, such as tracking, entering, and reporting data; posting fliers; general outreach; compiling information; helping with CAP resource tracking; and/or other duties as needed
• Attend regular CAP Staff meetings and attend other CAP related meetings as able.

Required Qualifications

• Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours)
• Educational experience, volunteer work, internship, or research experience related to human or social services
• Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrated understanding of the lived experiences of various ethnic, cultural, and socio backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities, and the barriers and challenges faced
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft, and/or ability to quickly learn
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Listens for understanding, communicates effectively across cultures and backgrounds, and treats all people with dignity and respect
• Familiarity with intersections of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and talking with other issues of power, privilege, discrimination, and oppression, and struggles faced by under-served groups
• Complete SATF's 40-hour advocacy training within 3 months of start date
• Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 12 months remaining as an OHSU student eligible for a Student Worker position
• Experience working with victim-survivors of violence
• Experience with anti-violence advocacy
• Experience coordinating a project, program or service
• 1 year demonstrated experience integrating theories of intersectionality and cultural competency in trauma response services.
• Experience with social change, popular education, and public health theories, strategies, and approaches to violence prevention.
• Experience managing and facilitating group dynamics

Additional Details

This position will typically work M-F between the hours of 8 am - 5 pm however may be asked to work evenings. The position is located in Portland, OR, and will generally be in our Portland office twice a week.
