Genetics Counselor

Job Description The Genetic Counselor will provide comprehensive genetic counseling services to individuals and families with a focus on pediatric general genetics, but with potential opportunities for specialization in a variety of areas, including metabolic genetics, cardiogenomics, cancer genetics, and prenatal genetics. Responsibilities include:
- Obtaining and interpreting detailed family and medical histories.
- Assessing and communicating risks for genetic conditions.
- Ordering and interpreting genetic tests.
- Providing psychosocial support and counseling to patients and families.
- Educating patients and healthcare providers about genetic conditions, testing options, and management strategies.
- Participating in multidisciplinary clinics and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of genetic counseling programs and protocols.
- Staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in genetic testing and research.
- Acts as preceptor to the graduate students interning in the Medical Genetics Program.
- Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
