Respiratory Care Practitioner - 36 Hours/Week - Nights

Job Summary Location: Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA Schedule: 6:30 p‑7 a, varied schedule, 2 weekends per month required with rotating holidays. Up to $30,000 sign‑on bonus and $10,000 tuition reimbursement. CRT certification accepted. Benefits Full‑time benefits eligibility starting at just 24 hours per week. Responsibilities Perform routine and complex modalities of respiratory care independently. Demonstrate competency on all therapeutic modalities provided at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Complete high‑risk/low‑volume skill checklist satisfactorily. Document procedures and patient assessments in the medical information system according to departmental procedure. Update patient care plans and goals to reflect appropriate patient needs. Develop, review, and revise plans of care as needed to achieve optimum outcomes. Receive and interpret physician orders in accordance with professional knowledge. Evaluate patients in cooperation with attending physicians. Recommend appropriate care based on AARC clinical practice guidelines. Communicate regularly with other patient‑care team members regarding condition and progress of assigned patients. Provide complete verbal or written reports to incoming care providers. Use communication board and patient care plan to keep nurses and other caregivers updated. Report unresolved issues to appropriate personnel. Maintain continuity of hospital services to ensure timely patient care interventions. Provide diagnostic procedures within the scope of practice for departments such as Heart Station and Pulmonology. Assume charge responsibilities in the absence of a Lead therapist. Work within protocol guidelines to ensure all patients receive appropriate therapy. Review >95% of patients for protocol therapy. Flag charts for therapy changes. Assist the Respiratory Care Department in achieving a patient satisfaction rate >95%. Act as an informative and helpful resource for patients. Assist with patient needs when asked whenever possible. Help improve interdepartmental relations. Educate nursing and ancillary staff on Respiratory Care procedures. Schedule Rotating shift from 6:30 p to 7 a with 2 required weekends per month. Job Requirements Education Associate’s of Science Degree with a certificate in Respiratory Care required. Bachelor’s of Science Degree with a certificate in Respiratory Care preferred. Experience 3–6 months on‑the‑job experience to acquire hospital policies, procedures, and routines. License/Certifications Certified Respiratory Therapist (C.R.T.) required at time of hire. Registered Respiratory Therapist (R.R.T.) required within 12 months of accepting the Advanced Practitioner position. Licensed by the State of Iowa as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.IA). Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 6 months of hire. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills to relay recommendations accurately within the patient‑care team. Physical Requirements Medium work – exert up to 50 pounds of force. Occasionally performed (1–33%): Climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting. Frequently performed (34–66%): Balancing, carrying, crouching, distinguishing colors, keyboarding/typing, lifting, pulling/pushing, repetitive motions, standing, stooping/bending, twisting, walking. Constantly performed (67–100%): Grasping, hearing, reaching, visual tasks, speaking/talking. Job Hazards Not related: explosives (pressurized gas), electrical shock/static, radiation.
